Tweet, Like or Blog....You Pick

Nike is no different that any major company today, they use social networking just as everyone else does.  The difference between Nike and many other companies is the amount of different Twitters, Facebooks and blog they use.  It all starts with their own website where right on the homepage you will see 2 icons, one being Facebook and the other being Twitter.

Facebook and Twitter
- Nike uses Facebook and Twitter just as good as anybody in the business.  Nike has 35 plus twitter accounts and 50 plus Facebook pages.  These pages are all used for different elements within their company.  Each major sport has their own page and twitter (@Nikebasketball, Nike Basketball) as well as many different cities and geographical regions around the United States and the world (@NikeChicago, Nike Sportswear Brasil).

Blogging and Micro Blogging
- Blogging is a big part Nike and the "fashion" business as a whole.  Traditional blogging is very prevalent in Nike's business.  They have a link right on the top of their website stating "recent blogs", where you can navigate from there to different areas of the company and blog as you wish.  But what makes Nike different than the rest is the personal blog website (Niketalk.com)  I remember going to Niketalk as a kid to find out when sneakers were being released and what everyone's opinions were on how much they will be worth in the future. Within Niketalk i would say that they incorporate some micro blogging in it, but I believe that is all just natural to a blogging/forum website.  Niketalk uses numerous different blog topics, ranging anywhere from sneaker release dates to sneaker reviews all the way to a classified section where people can buy and sell sneakers.

Video and Photo Sharing
- Nike uses all of their social networking sites to upload photos and videos, that are both advertising the company as well as showing specific products.  To go along with the use of social networking sites, Nike also has many pages on flikr.com.  Granted I will be honest I do not know if this is directly from Nike but if it is they leave their pages open for people to upload pictures and videos.

Social Bookmarking
- Nike's social bookmarking is a direct branch of their blog websites.  Every post is saved along with every new topic that has ever been blogged about.  So when wanted to read something maybe you've already read or just looking for a specific topic they are easily found on the websites on the left side.

To conclude, I believe Nike does a great job of social networking and blogging.  They have numerous different topics and origins of discussion that give them a broad range of people they can touch.

  1. A good overview of the company's use of social networking. I might have liked to see a bit more about how their social networking plays a role in their overall marketing scheme. How does it, for example, support the brand? You say, "So when wanted to read something maybe you've already read or just looking for a specific topic they are easily found on the websites on the left side." How does this play into key brand messages?
